Old deck, new deck, heck, we do it all! We recently traveled to sunny Encinitas, where the weather is beautiful, but the decks are battered by the Pacific Ocean air. It was new construction deck, where the owner framed the door and installed the railing around the perimeter. First, we had top remove the existing stucco, in order to access the flashing underneath. It was in poor condition, so we replaced it with diato/combo metal along the house.Next, we installed custom door pan at the door threshold.
Lastly, we finished up our waterproof deck repair flashing service with drip edge flashing. This was installed along the perimeter of the deck, around the newly built railing.

Let me give you a run down on some of the main types of deck flashing and their uses.
Drip Edge. The name is self-explanatory. It is located around the perimeter's edge and it allows the water to drip off your deck! This is used when the deck has at least one open side. It has a lip on the drip side, in order to keep the water off the fascia board.

L Metal. Again, this deck flashing is self-descriptive. It is usually placed up against walls. It fits snugly on the deck to wall transition. It keeps the water out of your cracks.
Diato/Combo. As a substitute for L metal, where there are stucco walls. The stucco lies on the top part of the deck flashing, to give you a flush look.

We made the trek up to Biola University to reinforce one of the school's busy walkways. They requested that we install a waterproof seal up to the walls along the walkway.
Sloping Supremacy. There was ponding on the walkway, so we showed it who is boss. Prestige Deck Coating often performs job specific sloping to insure proper deck drainage.Metal Mastery. To encourage proper draining we installed a scupper drain. This is a hybrid between a deck drain and drip edge deck flashing. For walkways with walls on either side, we can slope toward the walls, and any water flows out the scupper drains.
Ponding often leads to rust. Such was the case with the existing L metal flashing. We replaced it to crush any future opposition to our realm of comfortable dryness!
