Waterproofing Membrane System

We have developed our own 5 layer waterproofing membrane system, utilizing the diagram above.

Layer 1. First, we secure your plywood deck sub-floor with flexible metal lathe. Optionally, we can lay down our system on top of eligible concrete coated decks. Our polymer modified concrete is super strong. It is also waterproof. 



Layer 2. Immediately after drying, we lay down fiberglass matting. Imagine surfboards and boat sides. With added resin, this insures a fully waterproof surface.

Layer 3. As if that wasn't enough, we add a second layer of waterproof polymer modified concrete. This gives it a "sandwich" feel. The result is, the fiberglass is protected and the whole waterproofing membrane system is strengthened.

Layer 4. Everyone knows, a slippery decking system is no bueno. Nor, is it attractive. Don't worry, you choose the finish layer texture. Consequently, you get both a safe and beautiful waterproofing membrane system. Lastly, we spray on a custom pattern with waterproof concrete.

Layer 5. As if four layers of waterproof materials wasn't sufficient – we add a fifth. Like the texture finish, this is your choice. Thankfully, we have many colors to chose from. Go fresh, get funky if you want. Two powerfully waterproof coats of concrete fortified paint. Boom, this deal is sealed. Waterproof Plywood Deck – How?

If you have a wood slat deck, the first step is to nail down plywood sheeting. This provides a sturdy yet flexible base level for our deck coating system.

Next, metal lathe is securely stapled down. This gives the waterproof plywood deck strong support for the coating layers.

Third comes the concrete. This gives the waterproof plywood deck its core. We use polymer modified concrete to keep the cement from cracking. Each step in the process takes into account the need for a balance between strength and flexibility.

Key in the waterproofing system is fiberglass. Just like in boating and surfing, the waterproof deck repair industry uses fiberglass to ensure a watertight seal. Any pesky leaking water from the top of the deck cannot penetrate our fiberglass layer.

A skim coat of concrete wedges the fiberglass in place and adds strength.

This is a safe waterproof plywood deck system. Added for a non-slip grip is a texture coat pattern (of your choice). It looks really nice as well.

Finally, two coats of concrete fortified paint sealer (you color choice), are sprayed on to seal the deal!

Damp Deck? Don't Be Scared!

When you walk on your balcony deck, does it give? Do you have a soft spot on your patio deck coating? Is there a pool of water on a section of your roof decking? Is the deck waterproofing system you had installed getting worn, or slick? Perhaps, you might have a damp deck. A damp deck could be trouble, especially with the rainy winter coming approaching.

Damp Deck – Science

Now you know some of the signs that you could have a damp deck. But what might be causing it? Once your deck gets damp, it is too late.

When you have a deck coating system installed, water can go to one of three places. One, it sheets off the deck. Every properly constructed deck should have gradual sloping that removes excess water. Two, the excess water pools on the decking. If your deck was poorly constructed or the deck waterproofing installers did not do their job right – water will pool in certain areas on the deck's surface. Three is the worse case scenario. Excess water first will pool, then gravity takes over. It will seep into the deck coating itself and pool underneath the concrete – on the plywood substrate.

Damp Deck – Scare

Water seepage is bad! For one thing, you often have no idea that you have water underneath your deck coating. Second, it begins to rot away at the wood structure. Thus, a damp deck or worse – dry rot!

Pool Waterproofing Membrane

Prestige Deck Coating can restore your old pool waterproofing membrane, or even install new one! You may be asking what a waterproofing membrane even is. I wrote in detail about it here. Whether you have a home pool, HOA community pool, or a commercial "splash zone," we have the right system for you.

Pool Waterproofing Membrane

We have developed our own pool waterproofing membrane system. Its five-step application process is as follows:

1. Repair. Many pools we see have deck damage. Whether cracks, bumps, or decay, we can help. Using a "V-cut" grinder, we level the surface. Then, we apply our epoxy bonder in the crack, in order to make the surface watertight, flexible, and strong. 
2. Waterproofing. What makes us a cut above many companies, is our use of fiberglass. Next in the process, we apply fiberglass matting with a specially formulated bonder. This produces a waterproof surface. Also, it protects the previous crack repair.
3. Strength. To ensure a strong, safe walking surface, we next use a concrete layer. Our polymer modified concrete is professionally grade. Additionally, it covers and protects the fiberglass.
4. Texture. We spray on another coat of concrete as texture. This serves two purposes. One, it creates an anti-slip, grippy surface. Two, with your choice of texture pattern, you have a beauty surface to enjoy. A safe and sophisticated pool waterproofing membrane. 
5. Paint. Finally, we enhance the aesthetics and keep a cool surface. This is achieved with two coats of pigmented concrete/masonry floor paint and sealer.
