Deck Resurfacing Repair. Our first step in resurfacing decks is proper deck repair.
For this Rialto project, we removed and replaced the bottom 8 inches of the stucco and in order to install the Diato 'Combo' metal. Next, Diato metal was placed along the deck to wall transition, incorporating the stucco screed. This was to make sure the wall was ready for stucco when we were done. We then installed drip edge flashing around the perimeter of the decking surface. A door pan was installed under the threshold to insure a waterproof seal.Deck Resurfacing System. Our last step in resurfacing decks are our varied deck waterproofing systems.
For this particular deck coatings project, we used the Crete Decking System. This is a multi-layer waterproofing membrane designed for use over plywood sub-floors.

One of our latest opponents was a double-deck project. So, we gave it the Ol' 1-2 waterproof punch! The upper deck had surface cracks. The lower deck had no cracks and required only a maintenance seal.

For the lower deck coating, we first cleaned the surface and then resealed, using 2 coats epoxy fortified color top coat. Our deck paint is waterproof and comes in a variety of colors. One of our recent jobs in Costa Mesa required just such a tweak to make it a truly cool deck.
Deck Flashing. Ponding water on this decking surface had caused deck flashing damage, so we first had to install copper L metal flashing to make the perimeter watertight. Copper was used because of the deteriorating effects of salty ocean air.
Sloping. The ponding problem also called for a sloping solution. We had to install a sloping "cricket" to divert water off of the deck. This two sided "V" shaped sloping procedure uses a high point to divert water away from a central troubled ponding spot. Typically decks are built with adequate sloping, but in certain cases ponding requires us to make your deck even more uneven. Don't try this on your kitchen table!

One of our recent customers has a newly constructed deck that needed our services.
Deck Flashing. Because the corners of a decking project are crucial in ensuring a waterproof seal, we started with expert deck flashing installation. This deck butted up against the house and had three open sides. This called for two types of metal flashing. Diato, or Combo metal, was installed along the deck to wall transition, incorporating the stucco screed. This means a seamless blending of deck flashing and wall, that is fully waterproofed!
We next laid down the drip edge flashing around the deck's perimeter. This kind of flashing allows for the excess water to sheet off the deck, eliminating ponding. We use this flashing when there are no deck drains to remove water accumulated on the deck.As this was a new construction, we needed to secure the whole perimeter from water intrusion. So we installed a door pan under the door threshold.

We first removed all existing deck material which was delaminating, including deck paint and concrete layers. Because this particular deck was leaking at the door pan, we removed and repaired the stucco around window perimeter in order to access door removal procedure.
Door Removal. We removed and reinstalled the sliding door, in order to access and install door pan:
-After door removal, we installed a new deck flashing door pan to prevent the further possibility of water leaking at seam of door and decking.
-We applied a new biothane moisture barrier prior to stucco removal and repair.
-We re-caulked seams around door in order to waterproof.
After all the foundational deck repair elements were performed, we then installed our Crete Decking System. This is a multi-layer waterproofing membrane is designed for use over plywood sub-floors. So, we can even lay down our system over your existing wood deck!

Deck Flashing Repair
Ah, delightful Dana Point! Located on the riveting Riviera of the Orange County coastline, this is a gem on the west coast garden of oceanic opulence. One would think that this diver's destination would be immune from water issues on land! Not so, in fact the proximity to the ocean brings devious dangers of their own. Ocean air and fog causes unwanted moisture intrusion on decking surfaces. The need for deck flashing repair is common occurrence. One such deck flashing repair in Dana Point had an existing coating that was in usable shape, so we could install our deck waterproofing system over top.
First, we had a few deck repairs to attend to:

1) Trowel down polymer modified concrete over lath reinforced sub-floor.
2) Roll out fiberglass matting and lather with bonder, to fully waterproof the deck coating.
3) Reinforce decking surface with an extra layer of concrete.
4) Spray texture coat of your choice.
5) Seal deck repair with two coats of epoxy fortified concrete paint.
